Prof. Dureja is considered as the pioneer of Pain Management in India. He started Pain Management Services at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in 1986 and developed them to the highest international standards. He served for more than 20 years at AIIMS, till 2005, when he set up Delhi Pain Management Centre. Dr. Dureja is a Fellow of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), India and an active member of World Institute of Pain (WIP) and Indian Society for the study of Pain (ISSP). He has been invited to several international conferences over the past two decades. He has also authored 6 books and 240 papers on the subject.
