About Olmedol CD 40mg/10mg Tablet

OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL+CILNIDIPINE is a combination of blood pressure-lowering medicine,  and novel calcium channel blockers primarily used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). Hypertension or high blood pressure is a chronic condition in which the blood's force against the artery wall is high. As a result, it leads to heart diseases, irregular heartbeat, and other complications.

OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL+CILNIDIPINE is a combination of two medicines, namely: Olmesartan medoxomil and  Cilnidipine together help in lowering raised blood pressure effectively. Olmesartan works by blocking the hormone angiotensin, thereby relaxing blood vessels. This allows the blood to flow more smoothly and the heart to pump more efficiently. Cilnidipine blocks the activities of the calcium channels present in the blood vessels of the heart. This reduces the heart's workload and makes the heart more efficient at pumping blood throughout the body.

Directions for Use

OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL+CILNIDIPINE should be taken daily with food to allow its slow absorption and reduce the risk of sudden lowering of blood pressure. Swallow the whole tablet with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew or break it.

Side Effects of Olmedol CD 40mg/10mg Tablet

Like all medicines, OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL+CILNIDIPINE also has some side effects, though it is not mandatory for everyone to experience them. Most of the side effects of OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL+CILNIDIPINE do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. The most common side effects of OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL+CILNIDIPINE are dizziness, headache, peripheral oedema (swelling of legs/hands), flushing (skin reddening), rash, taste change, and upset stomach. Everyone doesn't need to experience the above side effects. However, if these side effects are persistent, reach out to your doctor.

Drug Warnings

OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL+CILNIDIPINE should not be given to the people allergic to OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL+CILNIDIPINE, have low blood pressure (less than 90 mm of Hg), and also people who had a heart attack, kidney disease, liver disease, pregnant women or planning to get pregnant and breastfeeding women. Besides this, it is contraindicated in low blood pressure (hypotension), cardiogenic shock (sudden stopping of blood flow to the heart), and aortic stenosis (heart valve problem). OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL+CILNIDIPINE can pass into breast milk, but its effect on the baby is not known. So, it is better to tell your doctor if you are taking OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL+CILNIDIPINE and breastfeeding. Grapefruit juice and St. John's wort plant should not be consumed when taking OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL+CILNIDIPINE as it is contraindicated. Drinking alcohol while using OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL+CILNIDIPINE can cause you to have low blood pressure, so avoid intake of alcoholic beverages.

Drug Interactions

Drug-Drug Interaction:

OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL+CILNIDIPINE may interact with other high blood pressure-lowering pills (benazepril, metoprolol, ramipril, hydrochlorothiazide, simvastatin, diltiazem, aliskiren, verapamil, azilsartan, benazepril, lisinopril), and can lower your blood pressure leading to severe condition. Besides this birth control pills containing drospirenone should not be taken with OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL+CILNIDIPINE.

Drug-Disease Interaction:

OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL+CILNIDIPINE should not be given to the people with chest pain (angina), cardiogenic shock (when the heart fails to pump required blood to the body), heart valve problem (stenosis), low blood pressure (hypotension), coronary heart disease, liver disease, kidney problem, or heart failure

Safety Advice

ALCOHOL

OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL+CILNIDIPINE can lower your blood pressure causing dizziness and drowsiness. It can also cause orthostatic hypotension (sudden fall in blood pressure while standing). So try to avoid intake of OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL+CILNIDIPINE with alcoholic beverages.

PREGNANCY

OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL+CILNIDIPINE is pregnancy risk category D medicine which may cause harm to the fetus or unborn baby. So, when pregnancy is detected, discontinue OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL+CILNIDIPINE as soon as possible and consult the doctor.

BREAST FEEDING

OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL+CILNIDIPINE passes into the breast milk. But its effect on the baby is not clear. However, it is advisable to contact the doctor before intake of OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL+CILNIDIPINE.

DRIVING

OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL+CILNIDIPINE may cause side effects that could affect your ability to drive. Taking OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL+CILNIDIPINE may lower your blood pressure

LIVER

OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL+CILNIDIPINE to be taken with caution, especially if you have had a history of liver disease. Your doctor will have to change the dosage depending on your medical condition and your reaction to treatment.

KIDNEY

Not recommended in patients with chronic kidney disease (severe renal impairment). Safety and effectiveness in patients with severe renal impairment have not been established and it also severe kidney damage.
