Epstat 150mg Tablet SR
PRODUCT DETAILS
About Epstat 150mg Tablet SR
EPALRESTAT belongs to a group of medicines called aldose reductase inhibitors used to manage diabetic neuropathy. Diabetic neuropathy is a chronic progressive nerve disease that causes nerve pain due to nerve damage in diabetic patients. It mostly affects the legs and feet.
EPALRESTAT contains ‘Epalrestat’ that works by inhibiting the aldose reductase enzyme, which catalyzes the conversion of glucose to sorbitol. Accumulation of sorbitol occurs due to hyperglycemia in patients who have diabetes which leads to nerve pain. EPALRESTAT prevents the accumulation of sorbitol, thereby helping in treating diabetic neuropathy.
Take EPALRESTAT with or without food. Swallow EPALRESTAT as a whole with a glass of water; do not chew, or break the tablet. You are advised to take EPALRESTAT for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you depending on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience certain common side-effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, and headache. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.
Consult your doctor before taking EPALRESTAT if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. EPALRESTAT causes drowsiness and dizziness, so drive only if you are alert. EPALRESTAT is not recommended for children as safety and effectiveness have not been established. Avoid consuming alcohol along with EPALRESTAT as it could lead to increased drowsiness and dizziness. Keep your doctor informed about your health condition and medicines to rule out any side effects.
