Description
A Thyroid Test is for T3 & T4 total. They are present in two forms in the body (attached to a protein and free) and are responsible for controlling the human body’s metabolism. Both T3 and T4 are needed for the normal functioning and growth of the brain especially in new born babies to children up to 4 years of age.
Who should get Tested?
It is advisable, for individuals who have a family history of thyroid problems. This test is strongly recommended for woman in or near menopause, pregnant woman and for woman who have just delivered a baby. Individuals with conditions that have an increased risk of thyroid problems and so are often advised to have thyroid function tests undertaken each year.
Proper T3 and T4 levels are essential to brain development in the early years of a child’s life.
This thyroid test measures the amount of Total T3 and T4 hormones which is the active forms of the hormone. Getting tested periodically is the best measure one can take to avoid any disorders related to this gland.
