About Zaptar-K Scalp Solution

COAL TAR+KETOCONAZOLE belongs to a class of combination drugs called 'antifungal with keratolytic agents' primarily used to treat dandruff and control seborrheic dermatitis (scaly patches and red skin on the scalp). Dandruff is a flaky, itchy scalp without signs of inflammation.

COAL TAR+KETOCONAZOLE is composed of two medicines: Ketoconazole (antifungal) and Coal Tar (keratolytic agent). Ketoconazole is an antifungal agent that works by preventing the growth of dandruff-causing fungi by avoiding them from forming their own protective covering. Coal tar belongs to a class of drugs known as keratoplastic, which works by removing dead cells from the skin’s top layer and slowing down skin cells' growth. This effect decreases scaling and dryness, thus relieving itching and cracking related to dandruff.

Directions for Use

COAL TAR+KETOCONAZOLE is available in the form of Shampoo. Your doctor will advise the appropriate dose that suits your infection. COAL TAR+KETOCONAZOLE is for topical (for skin use) only. Shampoo: Use COAL TAR+KETOCONAZOLE in shampoo form as prescribed by your doctor only. Wash your hair with COAL TAR+KETOCONAZOLE. Apply it to the affected areas with your hands. Gently massage in circular motions, leave it 3 to 5 minutes and rinse off with clean water. Note: If the medicine gets into your eyes, nose, or mouth, rinse thoroughly with cold water.

Drug Warnings

COAL TAR+KETOCONAZOLE may cause liver failure, so your doctor will monitor your liver function while taking COAL TAR+KETOCONAZOLE. Let your doctor know if you have any allergic reactions to COAL TAR+KETOCONAZOLE or other medications.  Avoid contact of topical COAL TAR+KETOCONAZOLE with nose, mouth, or eyes as it may irritate. In case COAL TAR+KETOCONAZOLE comes in contact with these areas accidentally, rinse with water thoroughly. Avoid smoking or going near naked flames as COAL TAR+KETOCONAZOLE catches fire and burns quickly. Use of COAL TAR+KETOCONAZOLE is contraindicated in people with asthma, an autoimmune disorder, heart problems (with prolonged QT wave of heartbeat), inform your doctor before taking COAL TAR+KETOCONAZOLE. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult the doctor before starting COAL TAR+KETOCONAZOLE. Do not give this COAL TAR+KETOCONAZOLE to a child without medical advice.  

Drug Interactions

Drug-Drug Interaction:

COAL TAR+KETOCONAZOLE may interact with the antianxiety drug (alprazolam), heart disease (quinidine, amiodarone), blood pressure-lowering pills (aliskiren, felodipine, nifedipine), medicines used to treat enlarged prostate (alfuzosin), anticancer (busulfan).

Drug-Disease Interaction:

If you have asthma, heart, or liver problems, inform your doctor before taking COAL TAR+KETOCONAZOLE.

ALCOHOL

It is advisable not to drink alcohol while taking COAL TAR+KETOCONAZOLE

PREGNANCY

COAL TAR+KETOCONAZOLE is a Category C pregnancy drug and is given to a pregnant woman only if the doctor thinks benefits outweigh risks.

BREAST FEEDING

COAL TAR+KETOCONAZOLE does not show any harmful effects in breastfeeding mothers.

DRIVING

COAL TAR+KETOCONAZOLE has negligible influence on the ability to drive or use machines

LIVER

COAL TAR+KETOCONAZOLE is contraindicated with liver disease. Therefore, it is advisable do not take COAL TAR+KETOCONAZOLE if you have liver disease. So, if you are having liver disease consult a doctor before using COAL TAR+KETOCONAZOLE

KIDNEY

COAL TAR+KETOCONAZOLE is safe for patients with kidney disease if prescribed by a doctor.
