About Draminate 15.625mg/5ml Syrup
DIMENHYDRINATE belongs to the class of medications called ‘antihistamines’ used to prevent and treat nausea (feeling sick), vomiting (being sick), and dizziness caused by motion sickness. Besides this, it is also used to treat nausea and vomiting associated with radiation sickness, surgery, drug-induced, and Meniere disease (feelings of spinning and inner ear problems). Motion sickness is an illness caused by motion during travel characterized by nausea and vomiting.
DIMENHYDRINATE contains ‘Dimenhydrinate’ which acts as an antihistamine and anticholinergic. It blocks the muscarinic cholinergic receptor (M1) in the brain, thereby, producing the calming and anti-nausea effect. It is also used to treat symptoms of other motion and balance problems such as feelings of spinning and inner ear problems (Meniere's disease).
DIMENHYDRINATE can be taken with or without a meal with a full glass of water. DIMENHYDRINATE should be taken 30-60 minutes before you travel or begin motion activity for better results. A person taking DIMENHYDRINATE often experiences side effects that include dry mouth, blurred vision, drowsiness, dizziness, headache, tiredness, disorientation, blurred vision, tinnitus, dry mouth, palpitation, low blood pressure (hypotension), pain at the injection site Seek medical attention immediately if these side-effects persist or worsen.
The use of DIMENHYDRINATE is restricted in persons who are allergic to any of the ingredients present in this medicine. Tell your doctor if you are facing breathing problems (asthma, emphysema), high pressure in the eye(glaucoma), seizures (fits), liver, kidney, heart problems, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) (a lung disease) or sleep apnea (sleeping disorder) as this medicine may cause respiratory depression or excessive drowsiness. DIMENHYDRINATE use in pregnant women is safe if prescribed by a doctor. DIMENHYDRINATE may pass into breastmilk, so avoid taking DIMENHYDRINATE if you are breastfeeding. DIMENHYDRINATE should not be given to children below 2 years as the safety and effectiveness were not established. DIMENHYDRINATE may cause dizziness, so you should not drive or operate heavy machinery. Do not consume alcohol while taking this medicine as it makes you more drowsy.

Directions for Use
DIMENHYDRINATE is available in the following dosage forms: tablet, syrup, and injection. Tablet: DIMENHYDRINATE should be taken 30-60 minutes before you travel or begin motion activity. Tablets are swallowed as a whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablets. The DIMENHYDRINATE chewable tablets should be chewed thoroughly before being swallowed. Syrup: Take the prescribed amount of syrup using a measuring cup or oral syringe and swallow it with a glass of water. Do not measure the syrup using a household spoon. Injection: Injection is given by a healthcare professional so, do not self-administer.

DIMENHYDRINATE may cause side effects such as dry mouth, blurred vision, drowsiness, dizziness, headache, tiredness, disorientation, blurred vision, tinnitus, dry mouth, palpitation, low blood pressure (hypotension), pain at the injection site. It is not necessary for everyone to experience the above side effects. If these side effects don’t disappear or get worse, consult a doctor immediately.

Drug Warnings
Do not take DIMENHYDRINATE if you are allergic to DIMENHYDRINATE or any other contents of it. Before taking DIMENHYDRINATE, please tell your doctor if you are using any antidepressants as if they give together can cause severe drowsiness. DIMENHYDRINATE is not intended for prolonged use unless prescribed by a physician. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Antihistamines overdosage may cause hallucinations, convulsions, or death, especially in infants and children, it also produces excitation in younger children. So, the dose adjustments may be necessary if prescribed to children. DIMENHYDRINATE should not be given to children below 2 years of age and patients who are unconscious or have severe drowsiness, dizziness, or headache. Inform your doctor if you have difficulty breathing, asthma or bronchitis (lung problems), epilepsy (fits), serious heart problems, liver or kidney problems, a stomach blockage, hearing problems, or increased pressure in the eye (glaucoma). Also, DIMENHYDRINATE causes dizziness and drowsiness. So, limit alcohol intake and refrain from activities that require you to stay mentally alert.

DIMENHYDRINATE may interact with other antihistamines (loratadine, diphenhydramine, cetirizine), pain relievers (codeine, morphine, hydrocodone), antidepressants (amitriptyline, imipramine), sedatives (diazepam and zolpidem), antibiotics (gentamicin)
Drug-Disease Interaction:
DIMENHYDRINATE should be used with caution in patients with respiratory diseases (asthma), liver or kidney problems, serious heart problems, sleep disorders, seizures, and hearing problems.

ALCOHOL
DIMENHYDRINATE increases drowsiness when alcohol is consumed. So, do not take alcohol while using DIMENHYDRINATE.
PREGNANCY
DIMENHYDRINATE is a pregnancy category B drug so, its use in pregnant women is safe if prescribed by a doctor.
BREAST FEEDING
