Dr Inamdar’s mind was firm about making advanced heart surgery techniques available to a common man at an affordable cost structure,who otherwise would have been bereft of his life saving procedure.He took up highest education in heart surgery in India and was the first student from University of Pune to acquire an M.ch (Cardiac Vascular and thoracic Surgery)Degree from B J Medical College and Sassoon Hospitals,Pune. This was followed by advanced training and fellowship in bypass surgery at St.Thomas ‘Hospital, London. The desire to serve the needy Indian population was more overwhelming than the extremely lucrative offers coming up from western world.He started off, after returning from UK, at Poona Chest Hospital, Aundh Pune (1992) as an Honorary Cardiovascular Surgeon (Honorarium of Rs.250/month) and worked successfully for 10 years till 2002. During this tenure, he operated upon more than 1500 heart patients. He received several awards,distinction and appreciations from various NGOs (Pune ki Asha, YuvaBharati, Hridaymitra, Suryadutta etc) for this meritorious and selfless service.In 1993 Dr. Inamdar established a heart foundation in the memory of his father named, “Krishnajee Heart Foundation.” Under this banner he was running the “Inamdars Heart Hospital” in Aundh, Pune offering excellent heart surgical treatment to the non affording patients in very economical packages. In 2002 he was also appointed by the government as a Honorary Cardiovascular Surgeon to serve the common man on a large scale.He organized several cardiac awareness and diagnostic camps by foundation at regular intervals in urban as well as the rural parts of Maharashtra. His foundation published a book, written by him, named ‘Hridayspandane’. The book has a very simple language and devoid of any complicated scientific data. No wonder it became a very popular book among-st the common man. Audio cassettes and CDs regarding prevention of heart diseases were also released. Several lecture series about awareness of heart disorders are routinely conducted by foundation.Dr. Inamdar entered into matrimony with a cardiac anaesthesiologist (Dr. Sanjivani) who has been a strong pillar of support all along.Having acquired vast experience in hand he established the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic surgery (CVTS) in 2002 at Sassoon General Hospitals, Pune with the help of Government of Maharashtra. He developed a ‘Dr Inamdar Heart Pattern’of running this department with unique standardized operating protocols (SOPs) This humanitarian pattern has been appreciated by dignitaries from other states of India who are willing to accept and implement it in their province.Dr Avinash Inamdar resigned from the Government Sector from the post of Professor and Head of CVTS Department on 12th of June 2013.
