PRODUCT DETAILS
About Psyvox 1000mg Tablet ER
DIVALPROEX belongs to a class of drugs called anti-epileptics also known as anticonvulsant medications. It is used to treat neurological conditions. It is used for the treatment of manic episodes in bipolar disorder, complex partial seizures, simple and complex absence seizures, and other types of seizures that include absence seizures. It is used as prophylaxis for migraines. Bipolar disorder is a mental health condition that affects your moods, which can swing from one extreme to another. It used to be known as manic depression. A seizure is a sudden, uncontrolled electrical disturbance in the brain. It can cause changes in your behavior, movements or feelings, and in levels of consciousness.
DIVALPROEX is available for oral use in the form of tablets. Swallow the tablets as a whole. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablets. The dose and duration of the treatment are given by your doctor. The doctor may increase or decrease the dose gradually depending on your health condition. It is given as monotherapy or adjunctive therapy to treat seizures. DIVALPROEX works by reducing or preventing manic episodes by increasing the amount of a chemical called gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain. GABA blocks transmission across nerves in the brain and has a calming effect.
DIVALPROEX causes significant hepatotoxicity, so it should be used with extreme caution in patients with liver failure. It can cause fetal defects, so it should be used with caution in women of childbearing potential. Your doctor may advise you to take effective contraception while using this medication. Some patients may develop pancreatitis after using DIVALPROEX. In such cases, the doctor may ask you to discontinue the medication.
Common side-effects of DIVALPROEX are abdominal pain, hair loss, blurred vision, double vision, loss of memory, loss of appetite, tiredness, back pain, constipation, depression, diarrhea, dizziness, indigestion, shortness of breath, fever, flu syndrome, headache, nausea, vomiting, impaired cognition, and weight gain. Some patients may also develop suicidal thoughts after using this medication. Contact your doctor immediately if any of these side effects persist or worsen.
Do not take DIVALPROEX if you are allergic to Divalproex or any other ingredients present in it. Before taking DIVALPROEX, tell your doctor if you are using any other anticonvulsants, other prescription or non-prescription drugs, or any dietary supplements. Inform your doctor if you are previously diagnosed with any brain disorder, depression, or pancreatitis. Do not use it if you have a medical history of liver diseases, urea cycle disorder (metabolic disorder), or Alpers-Huttenlocher syndrome (mitochondrial disorder). Tell your doctor DIVALPROEX if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
