About Afrelect 1mg Tablet

RASAGILINE is used alone or in combination with other drugs for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of Parkinson's disease. This drug can improve symptoms such as stiffness, shakiness, and difficulty in movement. Parkinson's disease is a medical disorder that affects the ability of a person to do regular tasks. This disease affects the nervous system of the body that in turn, affects the person's ability to move or do the normal activities of the day. This is a chronic and progressive disorder, so if the right treatment is not provided to the patient at the initial stage of this disease, then their symptoms may worsen with time.

RASAGILINE belongs to the therapeutic category of medicines, namely monoamine oxidase (MAO) type B inhibitors. The drug starts working by increasing the amounts of certain natural substances (norepinephrine, dopamine, serotonin) in the brain. Parkinson's disease is supposed to be caused by reduced levels of dopamine in the brain. There is an enzyme called Monoamine oxidase present in the brain, that is responsible for breaking the norepinephrine, dopamine, serotonin, tyramine, and similar chemicals, that are used by nerves for communication purposes. MAO enzymes are of types; MAO-A and MAO-B. RASAGILINE is responsible for breaking of MAO-B, which in turn reduces the breakdown of dopamine and increases the level of dopamine in the brain. An increased level of dopamine makes a person feel good and reduces the symptoms associated with Parkinson's disease.
