Dr. Jayaprakash Shenthar is well experienced and leading cardiac electrophysiologist with more than 20 years’ of experience in the field of electrophysiology, he is one of the few cardiologists in India to practice electrophysiology exclusively. He is one of the pioneers in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias in India. He completed his medical graduation from J J M Medical College, Davangere; MD (Internal Medicine) from Karnataka Medical College, Hubli; DM cardiology from TN Medical College, Mumbai and went on to get his Diplomate National Board in both Internal Medicine and Cardiology. Later, he underwent two years of cardiac electrophysiology training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Melbourne, Australia. After his return back from Melbourne in 1998, he has been practicing electrophysiology in India.He has the established the specialty of electrophysiology at various hospitals including Wockhardt hospitals, Bangalore and Vikram Hospitals, Bangalore, and is a visiting electrophysiologist to K M C, Mangalore. He is a proctor for training cardiologists for implantation of Implantable cardioverter defibrillator and Biventricular pacemaker. He performs > 600 ablations and about 550 device implantations yearly, and has performed more than 5000 ablations and > 6000 pacemaker and device implantations in adult and pediatric patients. He is extremely skilled in performing complex supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmia ablations using 3 D electroanatomical (both CARTO and Ensite) mapping systems in adult as well as pediatric patients.With a strong academic background, he has a number of publications in major national and international journals including Journal of American College of Cardiology, Circulation, Europace, Journal of Arrhythmia, PACE, Australia New Zealand Journal of Medicine, and Indian Heart Journal to his credit. He is also a peer reviewer for journals. He has trained a number of students, participated, and conducted workshops, lectures, and training in electrophysiology for cardiologists, physicians, and paramedical staff. He has the distinction of setting up, and conducting, the first virtual cath lab for training cardiologists in device implantation in this country.
