He passed MBBS from R. G. Kar Medical College and had a short stint in Molecular Neuroscience research in Wilson’s Disease and Movement Disorders at the Indian Institute of Chemical Biology. He thereafter, went to PGI, Chandigarh to train in Psychiatry where he picked up his skills very well and dazzled amongst his peers. He then returned to West Bengal to teach and practice Psychiatry. Rajarshi is a co-investigator of the National Mental Health Survey, the largest ever psychiatry epidemiology study of the world, funded by the Government of India and co-ordinated by NIMHANS, Bangalore. He is also co-ordinating/planning/implementing the first ever Psychiatric Epidemiology study funded by the Government of West Bengal known as the SCOPE study.
